Each pad includes a set of 1/4" felt shims that are ergonomically shaped to fit into three pockets in the front, middle, and rear of the pad. In addition, the pad is equipped with Pro Impact or Ortho Impact inserts for outstanding impact protection. Access to shims and inserts is a velcro opening along the spine of the pad. The exceptionally thin profile works perfectly with the shims, which are also thin, to ensure the pad is not bulky and maintains a proper, close contact feel. ORTHO Impact Inserts from Toklat are suitable for general riding and training. These inserts are beneficial for horses who have uneven muscle development, weaker back muscles, or a less-than-perfect saddle fit. Ortho-Impact insert has two layers consisting of 5 mm of ultra-thin, ultra-light Poron XRD bonded to a 12 mm layer of medium density viscoelastic foam. These materials provide stability and impact protection. Poron XRD is a high density open cell foam that absorbs 90% of impact energy. It minimizes bounce, protects the horse's back muscles, and gives the rider greater seat security. The viscoelastic foam fills in gaps and lets the saddle settle and stabilize for cushioning without interfering with range of motion.
