Tiger won his 82nd PGA victory on 10/28/19, tying him for first all time with Sam Snead! With his next victory, Tiger would be the winningest golfer all time in terms of number of victories/first place finishes! Current population report shows only 591 PSA 8s graded to date (and only four PSA 9s with ZERO PSA 10s!!). That is a minuscule amount for the very first card on the greatest golfer of this generation!! This is Tiger's first professional trading card, issued years ahead of the 2001 Upper Deck, produced by Grand Slam Ventures (GSV). GSV issued two versions of the 1997-98 Woods rookie, one printed with "gold ink", a duller gold color around the frame of the card and issued in packs/boxes, as well as a brighter "gold foil" version. The "gold ink" version was more easily available than the "gold FOIL" version. The Woods "gold foil" version was available only as part of a subscription offer. GSV released a set in honor of all the previous Masters winners (1934 to 1993) in 1993. With each subsequent year, purchasers of the original set were able to add on the new Masters winners(1994,1995,1996 and Tiger in 1997) by responding to a purchase offer from GSV. So only a very limited number of buyers were able to purchase cards were made each year to fulfill the year's order. The number 1000-2000 of the gold FOIL Tiger Woods card has been generally agreed upon as the number of gold FOIL cards made. Of that amount, only a fraction has received at least a PSA 8 like this card due to the highly condition sensitive black border. Be careful buying any Tiger Woods GSV Masters card that say 1997-1999 as those cards were printed in 1999 as part of a full sheet of cards meant to display as a poster. People have cut those sheets down so that the Woods card can be graded. Because these were available in sheet format, they are much easier to get in higher grade and buyers are fooled into buying what they think is a rare item which it is not due to the large supply of mint/gem mint graded versions. The rare/limited GSV version of Woods Masters card should say either 1997-98 for Beckett graded or 1998 for PSA graded versions.
