Description: For sale is a beautiful Thomas Webb & Sons Queens Burmese Vase, with Jules Barbe décor of purple flowers and green hawthorn leaves and vines. Burmese glass was invented and then patented in 1885 by F. Shirley one of the driving forces behind the Mt. Washington glass company. The story goes that Queen Victoria was presented with a tea set from the Mt. Washington Company, and absolutely loved it saying the glass reminded her of a Burmese sunset. In 1886 the Webb company of England acquired the license to produce the glass and named it Queens Burmese Ware with her Majesty's permission. This beautiful petite vase was made between 1885 and 1890. The matte finish was decorated under the direction of Jules Barbe. The opening is six-sided and measures 3 inches at its widest. This miniature vase is 3 ¼ inches tall. It has a polished pontil, and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or other issues. Please message me if you have any questions.
