Description: Thomas Greenhow William ''Tex'' Settle [1895 1980] was an office of the United States Navy who on November 20, 1933, set a world altitude record in a stratospheric balloon. Settle also served a flight instructor and commanded many of the noted United States airships including the USS Shenandoah and the USS Angeles. Settle won the Litchfield Trophy in 1929 and 1931 and the International Gordon Bennett Race in 1932 and the Harmon Trophy in 1932 and 1933. Settle was a veteran of World War I and served as a Vice Admiral during World War II and commanded in battle in the Pacific theatre. Listed for auction is a b/w photograph signed by Vice Admiral Thomas G. W. Settle. The photograph is a unique image of an airship dropping an aircraft and is signed ''T.G.W. Settle'' in black felt pen. The photograph measures 8.00 x 10.00 inches, with trivial wear otherwise it is in fine condition.
