Thomas Earle Execution fr.1745 Johann Ludwig Goffrieds "Historische Chronica"

Description: Up for sale is a foldout engraving from Johann Ludwig Goffrieds classic "Fortgesezte Hisoriche Chronic Order Bershreibung. This is from Volume 2 and was published in 1745. Other and earlier versions of were published under "Historische Chronica". This is a scene entitled "The True Maner of the Execution of Thomas Earle of Strafford - Lord Lieutenant of Ireland" in 1641. Volume 2 covers the period between 1617 and 1659 and the plate will be depicting a event from that time scene. This foldout engraving is likely after an earlier engraving by Merian as most of the similar scenes in this volume were. The engraving measures approximately 12 x 8 (including boarder areas) and is a folding plate. It listes The Titles of some of the people who are depicted in the engraving. The plate is discolored with staining and wear, with some chipping and tearing to the pages at edges. The page has some creases where it was folded within the book when originally bound. This plate is one in a series that we will be offering from the same book. Plate is in fair condition even with staining. Still, this is an impressive, detailed engraving that, when framed, will look nice. Unfortunately when I purchased this volume it was missing numerous plates and pages - thus the sale of individual plates. If interested in any of the text from the book please let me know. Please note that while I have included a copy of the Inside Cover, the Title Page and first two pages of the book (4 pages in total), they are not included in the sale, as they are reference pieces to determine authenticity for several other plates from the same book.
