Description: Thomas Bavaria Set of 2 Plates Hand Painted Wild Roses Daisies 1908-1939 w/Gold Exquisite Decorative THOMAS Hand Painted Set of 2 Cabinet PLATES, PINK & YELLOW WILD ROSES & BLUE & WHITE DAISIES w/Green LEAVES & BUDS, circa 1908-1939 from Marktredwitz, Bavaria, Germany DESCRIPTION: This features a spray of climbing pink & yellow wild roses with white and blue daisies connected by green vines with green leaves and rose buds. The background washes fade from light blue to light yellow to a light purple. The grey ghost leaves and buds fading into the background really make the flower spray pop out at you. The two plates though very similar do have the differences that characterize hand painted items. See photos. Plate #1 is photos #3-#7. Plate #2 is photos #8-#12. CONDITION: The condition of this set of decorative plates is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to the gold. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant plates have a diameter of 10" and a height of 13/16". HISTORY/MARKS: The first porcelain factory in the town of Marktredwitz, Germany opened in 1872 and was known as Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co. Fritz Thomas left the company in 1898 to open with his financial partner, Ens, his own factory in 1903 in the same town. The partnership prospered from 1903-1908, but Ens quit the partnership at the end of 1907 at which point Rosenthal A.G. in Selb became a major shareholder and ran the business as an independent subsidiary of Rosenthal. They continued to use the Thomas mark which is described as a shield with urns (or ears) on each side from 1908-1939 and during these years the company greatly grew and prospered. The Thomas & Co. Bavaria marks on these two plates differ slightly. These are identified by the porcelainmarksandmore website as being used in the 1908-1939 time period.
