Description: Thelocactus setispinus, also known as Hamatocactus setispinus, Echinocactus platyacanthus, miniature barrel cactus, or hedgehog cactus, is a cactus in the genus Thelocactus of the family Cactaceae native to Texas and northern Mexico. Thelocactus setispinus is a globose cactus with long white to yellow spines emerging from aereoles on its many spiraling or wavy ribs. The species is known for its yellow, funnel-shaped blooms that turn into red, round fruits. Thelocactus setispinus prefers a rich, well-draining soil mix. T. setispinus thrives best when placed in full sun throughout the year and some light shade in the hottest periods of summer. This plant needs plenty of water, but avoid wetting the bodies of the plants while they are in sunlight as it can cause sun burns and scarring. USDA Hardiness Zones 9-11. Thelocactus setispinus seeds should be spread across the surface of a sterilized cactus substrate mix. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of substrate mix and mist the surface to settle down the soil and seeds. Cover with a humidity bag, dome, or plastic wrap. Keep in a warm place with partial shade. Seeds will germinate best with high temp in the day and low temp at night. 70-80°F is the ideal temperature range. Seeds should germinate within 7-20 days. Mist or bottom water when the soil is almost dry. Even with optimal conditions, some seeds may have slow and sporadic germination. Place established plants in full sun to partial shade. Too much shade will make cactus and succulents etiolate during growth. Pack of 25 seeds
