Description: Victor G Ambrus, The Three Poor Tailors. London: Oxford University Press, 1965.[24p] This is the first UK edition, first printing. It does not have a dust jacket. The illustrated board covers are a bit grubby and bumped and the binding is just starting to come away (see photos). Otherwise it is tight and straight. Apart from some faint marks at the top of one spread the pages are in spotless condition, bright and clean with no inscription or markings. This Eastern European folk tale is retold and illustrated by Victor Ambrus. It won him the Kate Greenaway Medal for children's book illustration in 1965. It tells the story of three poor tailors who ride into town on a goat for a day of fun which ends in disaster. The richly coloured illustrations capture through small details the atmosphere of the old town; each tailor is distinctive and even the goat has its own character! This Hungarian born British illustrator went on to become well known through his appearances on Channel 4's Time Team. This is a scarce first edition of a charming, award-winning picturebook in very acceptable condition.
