Description: Measures 8-9/32" X 10-25/32", 16 pp including covers -- issue #46 (December 1963) -- published by The Realist Association (NY). Group 15-4901 There is a 21/32" tear at the front right lower edge -- plus a 1/16" tear (with fold) at the front left lower edge -- plus there is a 1/4" tear at the rear mid-lower edge, connected with a 1-1/4" fold, followed by another 1/4" tear -- otherwise typical condition for an "underground" publication of over 60 years, with wear & chipping to edges & corners, plus creases, scratches, indentations, folds, lesser tears, browning pages, rub-wear, soiling, foxing, etc -- overall condition Good Minus Years before NATIONAL LAMPOON, a modest little "adult satire" underground magazine was born, the brainchild of PAUL KRASSNER, who had decided that MAD MAGAZINE was becoming far too tame, and that more mature adults needed a more controversial and biting satire publication. Borrowing a few chops from MARK TWAIN, H. L. MENCKEN, JONATHAN SWIFT, AMBROSE BIERCE, WILL ROGERS, WALT KELLY and others, Krassner stirred up the contents, and created THE REALIST in 1958; and, current events being what they are, THE REALIST stuck around until 2001, a couple years after Krassner himself had died. Apparently, no one had informed the magazine of his passing.
