THOMAS HART BENTON. Official 1945-1946 illus. edition of Oregon Trail. this is a full grayishblue cloth cover with a spine burgundy area for title, author and illus. name. Benton's illus. are all in color and the title page is a 2-pager, single full pages within. Date is 1946 on title page with Doubleday & Company and 1946 but the spine states Literary Guild and history page states copyright of 1945. So I think it is a first printing. The illus. of Benton are worth the price of this book for sure. Condition: corners of h/c are curved toward book nicely but shows a slight hint of water stain apparently shows on back of the book cloth. Back endpapers are. front endpaper has a nice bookmark no writing noticed. Sized at 5x8.5 x 1.5" approx. I would consider this book just a tad over fair, no cuts in cloth, etc. During the depression years this illus. had done a mural in probably every post office in America. Story of a journey through the American West in 1846 passing through the Black Hills and interacting with various Indian Tribes.
