Collectors prefer Artist Proofs because their value increases even more than a Limited Edition. This is the first of Don Troiani’s Gettysburg trilogy depicting events on 2 July 1863. This shows Union Colonel Van Horne Ellis, commanding officer of the 124th New York Infantry repelling the attack of the Confederate 1st Texas at the Devil’s Den. At a particular time, Ellis, Major James Cromwell and many of the “Orange Blossoms” will be killed in a counter- attack to dislodge the Texans. This is the scarce Artist Proof of this historic art print. Very Limited Edition; only 50 of these proofs were produced; this is number 32. The print is signed and numbered by the artist. An Artist Proof is the first, very Limited Edition (only 50 in this case) of the prints that come off the press and this is noted on the print. The print comes protected in closed, plastic sleeve with sturdy paperboard backing. The print is sharp, bright, and clean. The original plates and drafts of this print have been destroyed and this print is out-of-print and no longer available from the artist or publisher. The print comes with a description of the scene.
