Description: THE MARCH TO THE SEA BY WILLIAM R. SCAIFE NEAR FINE CONDITION Sharp, Bright, Clean, Tight, Used Book Loaded with Highly Detailed, Plate Maps; Contains Complete Orders of Battle Fully Referenced and Indexed; Contains Casualty Data; With Bibliography PRIVATELY PUBLISHED BY WILLIAM R. SCAIFE IN 1993 The March to the Sea is an outstanding work covering the entire critical campaign. Sherman’s March to the Sea occurred through Georgia from November 15 until December 21, 1864. Union Major General William T. Sherman and his troops left the recently captured city of Atlanta, Georgia, on November 15 and marched across the state arriving to capture the port city of Savannah, Georgia, on December 21. His forces followed a “scorched earth” policy, destroying military targets as well as industry, infrastructure, and civilian property, disrupting the Confederacy’s economy and transportation networks. The operation debilitated the Confederacy and helped lead to its eventual surrender. Sherman's decision to operate deep within enemy territory without supply lines was unusual for its time, and the campaign is regarded by some historians as an early example of total war. THIS BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE CONDITION This is a clean, tight, sharp, lightly-used, paperback book. The book is like new, except that there are handwritten notes by a former owner on some pages. The book is in fine condition otherwise. Normally I wouldn't list a book with writing in it, but this can be a hard one to fine, so I'm offering here at a great price. The pages are clean and bright white. They have no smudging, foxing or pasteboards. It is not an ex-library book. The book contains 129 pages and is loaded with excellent, detailed battle maps. The book is fully referenced and indexed, contains a bibliography, casualty data, and complete Orders of Battle for the various battles. Track Page Views WithAuctiva's Counter
