The folded board measures approx 9 1/4" x 15", 18 1/2' x 15" when open. D.P. Ives & Co. Boston and S.B. Ives Salem, Mass. There is soiling, rubbed and bumped corners and edges, inside paper split at fold, but exterior spine still strong. Leather closure tab split. The sturdy boards are a mottled purple on the outside and colors inside are still vibrant. 'The Mansion of Happiness was originally produced in England and was adapted for American audiences by Anne Abbot, a game designer from Massachusetts.' 'The Mansion of Happiness: An Instructive Moral and Entertaining Amusement is a children's board game inspired by Christian morality. Players race about a 67-space spiral track depicting virtues and vices with their goal being the Mansion of Happiness at track's end.' 'To play, players advance along the road to the mansion of happiness at the center of the board. If a player lands on a “virtue,” such as honesty or gratitude, they can move ahead six places. If a player lands on a “vice,” such as passion or cruelty, they have to move back to where they started. The first player to make it to the mansion of happiness wins. The game was very popular because it reinforced the main lesson of Christian morality: only by behaving well could a person achieve true happiness.'
