Description: The Life, Times and Treacherous Death of Jesse JamesFrank TriplettEdited by Joseph Snell 1970 This book has an interesting and controversial history. Originally published a month after Jesse James' death in 1882, it relied heavily on information provided by the outlaw's wife and mother although they both later disavowed their involvement and sued the publisher. It also includes a long unflattering chapter about how then Missouri Governor Thomas Crittenden conspired with the Ford brothers in James' murder. Due these factors, efforts to suppress the book were allegedly made. Given its rarity today, those efforts appear to have succeeded.
