Description: This is the Original (1sh) 1936 Window Card THE GREAT ZIEGFELD. It was used by MGM to promote this movie when it was released in 1936. It is not a reprint nor a reproduction. The movie stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Luise Rainer, Fanny Brice, Frank Morgan, Virginia Bruce, Ray Bolger, Nat Pendleton, Reginald Owen, A. A. Trimble, Ernest Cossart, Joseph Cawthorn, Harriet Hoctor, Herman Bing, and Buddy Doyle. The movie was directed by Robert Z. Leonard. This unrestored movie Window Card measures 14" x 22" This original movie Window Card is graded C8.0, Very Fine. Original movie Window Cards are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), C4 (Good), etc. The Window Card has an excellent appearance. The few very minor flaws in the image area described above (see photos too) are unobtrusive to the appearance of the Window Card and are only noticeable under bright light and very close inspection. I believe I photographed each of the flaws I described above; pretty sure I did, so please see photos :)!! The "imprint" area, which is the 6" or so at the top, is printed in with the dates the movie was showing at the Theatre and the name of the Theatre. Sometimes on original Window Cards, this space is blank. We do not consider printing in the imprint area to be a Flaw. In fact, we see it as another indication or evidence that the Window Card is an authentic, original Window Card from 1936, and is not a reproduction or a fake. As we described above, the date "1935" is written at the top right of the Window Card, even though the movie was released in 1936. The movie was released in 1936, more specifically on March 22, 1936 (Los Angeles, premiere) and later on April 8, 1936 (US. The 1935 date was probably used to place the Window Card in Theaters in late 1935 like an "advance" notice that the movie was coming, but we are not sure. The writing of "1935" at the top right could also just be a mistake by the Theatre employee(s). We believe that the original 1936 Window Card THE GREAT ZIEGFELD has excellent value and excellent investment value. Fans and/or collectors of images of the two superior actors - William Powell and Myrna Loy - will certainly create demand for this Window Card. We did not find any original movie posters, Window Cards, etc. of the 1936 THE GREAT ZIEGFELD making this one a tad rarer. That said, we did not do an exhaustive search of all internet platforms, so there may be other THE GREAT ZIEGFELD 1936 originals out there listed somewhere. In addition, the movie itself was quite a success and very popular. Per Wikipedia...."According to MGM records, the film earned a then-massive $3,089,000 in the US and Canada and $1,584,000 elsewhere resulting in a profit of $822,000. It was the 5th most popular film at the British box office in 1935–36. The film, which premiered in Los Angeles at the Carthay Circle Theatre, was the first musical film in history for which one of its cast members won an Academy Award. Luise Rainer received the Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Anna Held, Ziegfeld's first wife. The film, the pride of MGM at a time when Warner Brothers and RKO Pictures were the leading studios in Hollywood for musical production, was a major commercial and critical success and one of the most successful films of the 1930s, grossing US$4,673,000 (US$98,547,631 in 2022 dollars) worldwide at the box office. It was acclaimed upon release as the greatest musical biography to be made in Hollywood and still remains a standard in musical film making."We ship using USPS Priority Mail, which for Domestic buyers arrives in 1 to 3 business days.
