Description: Harper and Brothers, New York, 1932. Hardcover. First edition. Book Condition: Very Good. No DJ. 8 vo., red cloth lettered in gilt. Inscribed on ffep: “Billy Phelps / with Leonard Bacon’s / warmest + best wishes / June 20th, 1933.” Light edgewear. Good hinges. Solid, square copy. Spine darkened. Slight soiling to covers. Bacon (1887-1954) was a poet, literary critic and teacher born in Solvay, NY. Graduated from Yale University, where he co-edited the literary magazine, in 1909. Then he moved to Berkeley and taught at University of California, Berkeley. Good friend of Sinclair Lewis. He published several volumes of poetry, including Sunderland Capture, and Other Poems (1940) which won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
