Description: Scarce early original vintage fold-out (accordion) view book of 18 photographs showing the devastation from the great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. This 38 inch long fold-out photo presentation was produced and distributed by THE EMPORIUM - San Francisco’s Largest and Greatest Department Store located at Van Ness and Post streets. The flagship location at 835 Market Street, between 4th and 5th Streets, was a destination for generations of northern California shoppers. It was designed by San Francisco architect Albert Pissis, one of the first Americans to be trained at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. It withstood the 1906 earthquake, but was destroyed by the subsequent fire and rebuilt in 1908. Many additions and renovations were made in the decades following. Folded booklet measures 4 x 6 inches and folds out to 38”. It is in very good condition with slight edge wear to covers not affecting any inside pages (see scans). There are no missing or damaged pages and all the inside pages are clean and bright. Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks.
