Both volumes are in quarter leather over decorative cloth with gilt and gilt page edges. Both copies display rubbing, and general wear with both showing chipping to the ends of the spine leather. The larger piece which is missing from the top edge of Vol II was tucked away by the previous owner inside of the book. The bindings are both square and strong with no loose pages. The blocks have scattered foxing but nothing overly egregious. Between both volumes there are 49 full page steel plate engravings which are phenomenal. All engravings are present and firmly attached. All together a solid and very attractive example of this edition which is rather uncommon. Between the illustrations and the additional information included this edition should make a Shakespeare collector happy.
