Description: This is the 1980 Stated First Edition of THE COLA WARS. The Story of the global corporate battle between the Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo, Inc., by J. C. Louis and Harvey Yazijian. It was published in an octavo measuring 6.5" x 9.5" containing 386 pp. and bound in 1/4 burgundy cloth with gray boards and titled in silver on the spine. The light gray dust jacket titled and illustrated in red and black is not price-clipped ($15.95). Mounted on the inside front cover is the armorial bookplate of Cartha D. and Barbara Deloach. This is a wonderful association copy that any Coke or Pepsi collector should cherish. Cartha "Deke" DeLoach was deputy associate director of the FBI, the third highest ranking position behind only J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson. In 1963, just after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson requested of Hoover that DeLoach be assigned to the White House. As described by New York Times reporter Tim Weiner “DeLoach was always at L.B.J.’s beck and call, night and day, he was a talented political hatchet man, a trusted deputy to Hoover. He was also crucial to intelligence investigations conducted during the Johnson presidency.” As noted in his New York Times obituary, “DeLoach became head of F.B.I. investigations in 1965, leading the bureau’s assault on the Klan after the 1964 killings in Mississippi. He supervised the investigation of the murder of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968."Throughout the sixties, DeLoach worked diligently to improve the public image of the bureau & his negotiations with Jack Warner of Warner Bros. Studios resulted in the production of the long-running TV series, The FBI.Upon retiring in 1970, DeLoach became vice-president for corporate affairs at PepsiCo.PLEASE NOTE: ALL PURCHASES INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING!*****************************Payment is requested within five days of auction's close.
