Atkinson Fox (1860–1935) was a prolific Canadian-American artist, best known for his idyllic and romantic landscapes, genre scenes, and depictions of animals. His work was highly popular during the first quarter of the 20th century, as he created prints and paintings that captured the beauty of nature, rural life, and nostalgic scenes of serenity. Fox's art was widely distributed through mass-produced lithographs and calendars, making his work accessible to middle-class American homes. Despite his popularity during his lifetime, Fox worked anonymously under different pseudonyms for much of his career, including works signed "DeForest," "Harrison," and "Gordon." This anonymity, coupled with the commercial nature of his art, caused him to be somewhat overlooked by the fine art world. However, in recent years, collectors have rediscovered his work, recognizing the charm and skill in his prints. Fox's work remains cherished for its nostalgic and peaceful qualities, evoking a simpler time in American life. His prints continue to be collected, especially by those with an interest in early 20th-century decorative arts. The W.C. Co., Inc. of Tyrone, Pennsylvania, was the Westvaco Corporation, originally known as the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company. Founded in 1888, the company became a major manufacturer of paper, pulp, and packaging products. Westvaco was especially known for producing high-quality printing papers, packaging materials, and chemical products derived from wood. Over time, the company expanded into various product lines, including stationery, greeting cards, and calendars. In 2002, Westvaco merged with Mead Corporation to form MeadWestvaco, which eventually became part of WestRock, a global leader in packaging solutions. The legacy of W.C. Co. remains in its significant contributions to the paper and packaging industry. Chuck Olson CollectionChuck Olson spent over 40 years collecting and traveling the United States in search of unique vintage prints.
