Description: This 2007 release from the Southwestern Oklahoma Historical Society features a pair of early 1900s silent films that were made in Oklahoma, and includes narration and historical facts. This disc is in very good condition and plays perfectly, with the following write-up on back: Did you know that the first ever western movie was filmed around 1907 in the Cache, Oklahoma area? Well, it was! In "The Bank Robbery," Comanche Chief Quanah Parker played one of the characters! He is seen on the cover photo in the black hat on the horse. Besides Chief Quanah, there were some real federal marshals by the name of Bill Tilghman, Chris Madsen, Heck Thomas and Frank Canton playing the lawmen. Playing the bank robber was convicted robber Al Jennings. In "The Wolf Hunt," Jack Abernathy demonstrates his skill in catching live coyotes, barehanded! President Theodore Roosevelt had seen him demonstrate this in 1905 and asked him to do it again on film, to show the non-believers in Washington. It is with great pleasure that the Southwestern Oklahoma Historical Society shares this bit of history with you. These silent films were made before subtitles were invented.
