While training for a career in physiological psychology, he was caught up in the movement opposed the Vietnam War and became a peace activist, helping to edit the alternative newspaper Modern Times in New Haven from 1970-1973. On sabbatical from teaching at Wesleyan University in 1976, he did research in physiology at the First Moscow Medical Institute and at the Academy of Sciences of Soviet Georgia. His scientific publications include Brain Mechanisms for Offense, Defense, and Submission in 1979 and Motivational Systems of Social Behavior in Male Rats and Stumptail Macaques in 1981. In recent years, he has devoted himself to developing a science of peace. Among the published papers in this series are Why There Are So Few Women Warriors in 1983, There Is No Instinct for War in 1984, and On the Role of Anger in War and Peace in 1985. He is currently working on two larger studies, The Psychology of the Peace Activist, and The World History of the War/Peace Dialectic. He is the President of the Connecticut Association for American-Soviet Friendship and is active in the Greater New Haven Peace Council, the Third District Freeze Campaign, the International Society for Research on Aggression, and the American Association of University Professors. With his wife Lindsay Mathews, an activist in Local 34 of the Federation of University Employees at Yale University, he lives in Short Beach on Long Island Sound near New Haven." #collectiblebooks #DavidAdams #CuttleboneBooks #Pacifist #collectiblebooks #DavidAdams #instabooks #LongIsland #Vintage #Bookworm #ModernTimes #NuclearFreeze #booksforsale #AmericanPeaceMovements #AdvocatePress #instaread #bibliophile #History #BooksBooksBooks #booksale #Antiwar #Antiquarian#Bookstagram #AmericanSovietFriendship #readersofinstagram #Books #Peace #bookcollecting
