It was designed by renowned artist Becky Patterson, author of Hondo my Father, and The ranch that was us. History of Diego Ramon Scarf: Three centuries ago, Sgt. Major Diego Ramon and his son Captain Domingo Ramon, were among the first of a special breed of Spanish explorers to travel north from Mexico and cross the Rio Grande, "The Gateway to Texas", forming the first road system (Camino Real) and discovering the San Pedro River which established San Antonio. They were instrumental in the founding four of its five missions, including Mission San Antonio de Valero that would become the Alamo. Along with their company violent, flying company of thirty soldiers, their efforts were facilitated by Fray Antonio Olivares and Louis St. Denis. The end result was not only these amazing buildings but the merging of two diverse cultures, Spanish and indigenous, creating a new people and the communities that became modern-day South Texas.
