Description: The Nippon Bonsai Association held the 80th Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum from February 9 to 17, 2006. Since the first exhibition in 1944, the National Bonsai Exhibition has maintained its prestige as the oldest bonsai exhibition in Japan and has contributed to the development of the art of bonsai with a rich sensitivity that enhances creativity and a sense of coexistence with nature, as well as to the advancement of traditional Japanese culture. Thanks to your support, we are celebrating our 80th anniversary exhibition this year. Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan attended the 80th exhibition and enjoyed the bonsai under the guidance of Mr. Hiroshi Takeyama, President of the Association. This was the third time in five years that their Imperial Highnesses have visited the Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition. As the organizer of the exhibition, we are truly honored by their deep interest in the art of bonsai, which is a traditional Japanese culture that is spreading throughout the world. This year's exhibition, the 80th commemorative exhibition, was held in two phases, with the first and second phases each lasting four days, and exhibited 472 selected works. In addition, five bonsai were exhibited as special exhibits, including the "Imperial Palace Bonsai" Goyomatsu from the Imperial Household Agency and the wild Japanese apricot of former Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa, who was newly elected as the Association President at the Extraordinary General Meeting held last fall. The Kokufu Award, the highest honor of the exhibition, is awarded to bonsai selected from among the exhibited bonsai based on their artistic quality, dignity, cultivation condition, and the beauty of their decoration. The eight awards were four from the pine and oak division, two from the mixed tree division, and one each from the medium and small bonsai divisions. Each of the eight bonsai was well received by the audience for their thoughtful decorations, including the pots, table settings, and undergrowth, as well as the style of the bonsai, which shows the old age and character of the tree. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for their support of this exhibition, to the exhibitors, and to all those involved for their cooperation in organizing this exhibition.April 2006Japan Bonsai Association Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) Unlike almost all Japanese sellers,I have this item in stock. Please do bid with confidence. This catalogue weighs approx 2.38kg and is heavier than usual one.It is commemorative exhibition one.
