It can withstand extend periods of drought, moderately low temperatures, the scalding summer heat of both the dry desert or the steamy tropics. It doesn't mind salt spray, and as long as the soil drains well, it will tolerate a wide range in ph, and actually prefers to not be fed too often. Actually growing in rich soil and or frequent feeding will decrease bloom. Texas sage grows slowly and does not require frequent pruning. It prefers full sun and can withstand hot dry conditions, and is a good choice for areas where other plants might not thrive. The soft silver velvet textured foliage is attractive and adds interesting color and texture when Texas Sage is not blooming. When the five lobed tubular flowers begin to emerge in mid summer the bright purple is a very showy and attractive contrast. The bloom is showy and long lasting.
