Description: Texaco Tanker North Dakota Toy Ship by Wen-Mac: RESTO-MOD: Exceptional Example! PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTIONDo you have a mint example of the Wen-Mac Texaco Tanker from 1961? With original box? Then WOW- but that gem should be on a shelf somewhere for safe-keeping, and shouldn't be played with. But what if you do want to play? Or even convert a played-with example to R/C? Then consider one of my "resto-mod" examples, which look almost new! What's in a Resto-Mod? It MAY include:Replacement masts (I manufacture these as near-exact duplicates of the original, and yes they are available separately, see Seller's Other Listings);Replacement stickers;Houses painted white (because the old ones turn an awful yellow color);Replacement prop;Prop shaft bushing (a poor thing with no good lubrication) replaced with a lube-free Delrin bushing, with new grease tube (the grease blocks water ingression);Replacement rudder with serviceable retaining collar. (The rudder must be removed to service the prop shaft. The original rudder is held in with a one-time-use push-on retainer, and there's heck to pay to get it off);Replacement rollers;Broken mounting pegs replaced or repaired with a miniature machine screw from under the deck;A good cleaning of all parts;Original motor, cleaned, lubed, and verified operational;Wiring repaired when necessary;Replacement On/Off switch;Repair of any stripped deck screw bosses;New deck screws for any missing ones;Original free-flooding ballast tankReplica owner's guideShipped in a plain box suspiciously close in measurements to the original box, but packed in bubble wrap instead of flimsy cardboard retainers;Masts are removed and bagged for shipping, just like the original! See included instructions for mast installation. NOTE: These restored tankers are NOT mint! They typically show scuff marks on the hulls from play and storage...some are better and are noted as such. THIS TANKER:This tanker is not mint, but it is in as fine a condition as it could be without being fresh out of the box. It appears to have been displayed or stored for the last six decades, possibly never played with. Because it is in such good original condition, I chose not to do any of my usual resto-mod upgrades: No serviceable rudder, no improved prop shaft bushing, no new stickers. The tanker was cleaned, the motor and switch cleaned & exercised (see video), and several missing masts were replaced. Does NOT include the repro factory display base shown here- see my other listings for purchase opportunities. HULL: This tanker has the dark red hull (my favorite!) with a nice polished finish. 27 inches long. Original bow & stern stickers in good condition. I do offer replacement waterproof stickers if desired.BALLAST: Ballast tank is complete, and its lid has NOT been sealed, to maintain originality. Most of these lids will leak if the tanker is ballasted down to the waterline, so take care. ROLLERS: Original rollers. DECKS: Original, not repainted.HOUSES: Original, not repainted, little to none of the yellowing that is so common on the white parts. Original stack and sticker- sticker is in good condition. I also offer replacement stack stickers! GRAY PARTS: Original, not repainted.MASTS: Original boom, mainmast, cowl vents; replacement foremast, kingposts, and radar. Shown here partially assembled and loose. They are shipped removed, you will install them into the interference fit holes for a near permanent assembly, or you can slightly open the holes for a light fit; a drop of white glue will secure any looser parts while allowing for future removal. DRIVE: Original motor (cleaned & lubed), motor mount, shaft, prop & coupling, and rudder with original retainer. Rare! Note that the original polystyrene prop shaft bushing is not a great bearing, and we have the original grease and grease retainer in place. I offer an upgraded Delrin bushing, and new grease tube and shaft coupler if needed. ELECTRICS: Original battery contacts (cleaned), original wiring. Batteries not included. Original switch. NOTE: This switch has been tested and functions (see video), but these things are flaky! I offer a modern replacement switch kit if ever needed. MANUAL: Repro manual (booklet) included. IMPORTANT: Due to their age, fragility, rarity, and older manufacturing processes, vintage toys are for responsible adult collectors only. They are not suitable for children!See the last photo for info on a discussion group dedicated to the Wen-Mac Texaco Tanker. Are you interested in repairing your own Texaco Tanker?
