Description: This antique book titled "Ten Years in Washington” by Mary Clemmer is a rare find for any collector or enthusiast. The leather-bound edition was published in 1882 by the Hartford Publishing Company in Hartford, CT. There are numerous illustrations throughout. The book details the author's personal experiences and observations of Washington, D.C. and the surrounding region during the late 19th century providing insight into the life and scenes of our national capital through the eyes of a woman of the time. The book is in excellent condition given its age. The binding is intact and tight. There is light tanning of the pages (more at the edges than the middle). While there are a few pages with a small smudge/stain or dog-eared, the vast majority are clean. I did not see any tears or evidence of water exposure. The frontispiece does have some foxing (see photo). The cover has signs of wear consistent with its age. On the front, there is a partial crack (~1/2 down the length) along the edge of the spine cover. This is a wonderful copy of this delightful, antique book that has been well maintained over the years.
