Description: TEL-A-STORY "Junior" 35 mm Slide Viewer SN 226 w/ Working 50 watt Bulb ~ VINTAGE AV Description: Originally intended as an advertising fixture to "Tell A Story", this device allows viewing a stack of 35 mm slides, one by one using the "advance" lever. The 50 watt bulb's illumination passes through a concentrating lens, the film, an adjustable focus lens assembly, and is reflected by a 2-1/2" wide x 2-1/4" high mirror onto a 6" square translucent plastic viewing screen. A bracket inside the lid provides support and the proper angle for the viewing screen. A 68" power cord stores neatly by wrapping it around the three provided posts with the plug being secured in it's own retainer. The all steel cabinet hinges at both ends, and the lid is held closed with a hasp. A suitcase style plastic handle provides easy transport. These "Juniors" are around 75 years old, now very RARE, and a coveted acquisition by any serious AV collector. The later "Projection Table Viewer" models are more readily available. Interesting fact: This "Automatic Advertising Projector" was a marketing / sales aid developed by Tel-A-Story, Inc. of Davenport, Iowa. I found the exact same viewer with two different ID plates, presumably later, from another company in Long Island NY as shown in the 3rd and 4th from the last image. Note that the red plate shows "Patent Pending" from "C.O.C.", and the next image shows patent # 2.865.249, with an expanded source of "COC / Time-O-Lite © - Model 66" both of which carry the designation "Projection Table Viewer" vs the original "Automatic Advertising Projector" by Tel-A-Story (no mention of a patent). I've no clue what the "COC" stands for. Finally, note the attached 1947 advertisement by artist Dick MacKay describing Time-O-Lite's photographic timer. I'm guessing "Industrial Timer Corporation" purchased the rights from Tel-A-Story, got it patented and eventually marketed it under their already established name. Condition: To the best of my knowledge all pieces are present and appear to function as intended. There are a couple of tiny spots on the mirror where the silvering has deteriorated and there are some minor scuffs on the screen. That said, there are NO cracks, chips, dents, rust or any other cosmetic / structural issues inconsistent with its age. The OEM plate bearing the serial number 226 remains attached to the top of the lid, and a retailer's sample business card is displayed inside. The lamp, on/off switch, focus, slide feeder / guide and the advance lever all function as designed. The four rubber feet are present and in good condition.
