While I had read a few of the TARZAN comic books in the mid-1950s, I had never seen a TARZAN movie -- until 1957, when TARZAN AND THE LOST SAFARI finally hit our little home-town movie theater. And -- to top it off -- this was the FIRST film featuring the COLOR adventures of TARZAN, as well! The film featured GORDON SCOTT as TARZAN (he was the husband of VERA MILES at that time, as well), with a cast which included BELLA St. JOHN ; YOLANDE DONLAN ; WILFRID HYDE-WHITE ; ROBERT BEATTY ; PETER ARNE ; GEORGE COULOURIS ; & ORLANDO MARTINS. The plot was fairly simple: A small passenger plane, carrying a pilot with four passengers, crash lands in Africa, and TARZAN leads them through the jungle and veldt to eventual rescue, while fighting off vicious wildlife and a native tribe bent on human sacrifice. Since I had never previously seen a TARZAN movie, I was unacquainted with the primitive manner in which TARZAN had previously been portrayed; and GORDON SCOTT as TARZAN was definitely closer to the literate and well-spoken character of TARZAN as originally created by EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS (who had died in 1950, and thus had participated in no way with either the film or the movie, except for creating the characters of TARZAN and CHETAH, and the rudiments of the Opar warrior tribe). My original copy of this book was a regular addition to my "summer reading list" for years that followed; and I was quite pleased to find this 1966 edition, still in quite beautiful condition, with only minor flaws. Shipping charges include postage (including USPS Tracking on domestic shipments), packaging materials, labor and fuel (the nearest post office is 14 MILES away!); but I do combine shipping charges on multiple items -- so fill up that cart NOW an' save some $$$!
