Description: Taki Tu Watercolor Painting Pacifica California Boats Seascape Landscape 1995 Description and Item Information Up for sale is this framed, vintage watercolor painting by the California artist, Taki Tu. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This colorful painting depicts boats at rest overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Beyond the water, the coastline is shown. The painting is matted and framed under glass in a light-colored, wooden frame. The sight area within the mat measures approximately 14 inches by 18 inches. The exterior frame dimensions are approximately 21 1/4 inches by 25 1/4 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs 7 pounds 13.3 ounces. This would make a wonderful addition to a collection of fine art. Identification This painting is by the San Francisco Bay area artist, Taki Tu (1928 - ). There are notations on a piece of paper that is affixed to the back, as shown in Photo 8, including the title, "Spring in Pacifica" and the date, "1995." The artist's contact information is also written on the affixed paper. Per the artist's website, he was born in a coastal community in Taiwan; this community was a place where landscape artists gathered, and Tu's father befriended many artists. Thus, he was exposed to art and the process of creating art at a young age. Tu moved to the United States in 1953 to pursue his professional career in medicine. He has had a lifelong interest in art, painting when he was not working as a doctor. Tu took painting classes at the University of California, Berkeley; he also studied with Pam Glover and Charles Reid. He is known for his use of bold colors, and he creates oil paintings in impasto and watercolors wet-on-wet. He currently resides in Orinda, California. Condition This piece of art looks great overall, as shown. The painting and the mat have no stains, holes, tears, or creases. Some small dabs of brown in the sky look like paint, as made. The frame has very light wear. In my opinion, this piece is ready to hang and enjoy. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
