Description: Antique original Civil war era state Militia infantry officers SWORD this style sword was used extensively during the first two years of the American Civil War The largest percentage of fighting men were comprised overwhelmingly by state militias units This is a classic example , It has an exceptionally long 30 1/2 inch straight blade. and Is 38” over in length - custom ordered by a tall officer ! Brass hilt with the classic knights helmet pommel. The Reeded bone is in excellent condition, with just one tiny almost unnoticeable ding on one of the reeded ribs These were Used by both the union army / US and the confederacy / CSA By 1864 , most Northern officers switched over to the more familiar model 1850 officers sword , keeping in line with federal regulations Johny reb was a bit more frugal, as southern infantry officers tended to carry these swords until the end of hostilities See Peterson #11 This is a hefty bladed example well made with deep fillers , a real fighting weapon ( unlike the model 1860 officers sword ) very good condition - bright blade , no pitting or edge damage . These are actually extremely scarce , Compared to the common models 1850 and 1860 officers swords It no doubt saw service during the early years of the war I’ve handled scores of civil war swords over the years , this is the finest example of this style of sword I have had the pleasure to offer - Don’t pass it up !
