SWAN 1046 / PALOMAR - SKIPPER 71 Service Manual

Throughout the hundreds of hours researching both the Swan 1046 and Skipper 71B (almost identical), I have found several tuning procedure improvements that dramatically increase the performance of these highly collectable rigs. Swan-1046 / Skipper 71 history: With the CB explosion of the early seventies, Swan jumped on the band wagon building 'Ham Radio' quality CB transceivers. The Swan 1046 went into a very limited production around July of 1970. Best I can tell, only a handful, perhaps fifty of the 1046's were ever made. Some accounts suggest the 1046 was nothing more than a 'Re branded' Skipper 71 and was produced by Sam Lewis of Palomar Electronics. Extensive research leads me to believe the Swan 1046 was created prior to the Skipper 71. My findings are based on original Swan factory documentation and date codes found on parts from both transceivers. The fact that the Skipper 71 has numerous circuitry changes including a different filter compliment and better channel / crystal selector switch suggest the Skipper 71 was really an upgraded 1046. If anyone out there in 'Radio Land' has any input on this controversy, I would really enjoy hearing from you. Also included is a brief history of the Swan / Siltronix Corporation.
