Description: Welcome to my listing for an unusual translation of a Buddhist text, The Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch on the Pristine Orthodox Dharma. This translation from Chinese into modern English was undertaken by members of Buddha's Universal Church of San Francisco in the early 1960s. This 20-page publication is only a partial version of a few chapters of the sutra, published as a souvenir edition. A flyer tucked inside it, "Dedication Ceremonies of the Buddha's Universal Church, March 1, 1963" presumably indicates the event for which the souvenir sutra was printed. (The story of the building of the BUChurch is an interesting one, and worth googling -- I've lived in San Francisco for over 30 years and never heard of it!) The sutra document is in excellent condition, clean and unmarked except for signatures of two of the translators on the title page. The dedication ceremony flyer, and another flyer from a world Buddhist conference, are both in very good condition as well.
