Description: Presented is a fabulous quality vintage Reed & Barton sterling silver gravy boat or sauce boat, with underplate. This piece is dated 1929. Both the gravy boat and its tray are very ornate, with wonderfully hand chased floral and foliate scrollwork decoration and a lovely applied oak leaf and acorn design border to the rim, foot, and tray edge. The quality of the decoration is exceptional, skillfully done with a high degree of detail and crispness. Both the boat and the tray have two scroll-enclosed cartouches; on the boat, one has a monogram of EMF and one is blank, while the underplate's cartouches are both vacant. The gravy boat has a generous capacity of 12 fluid ounces or 355 milliliters. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Both pieces are stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Reed & Barton as well as sterling and a product number 575A. There is also a small yearmark of a torch for the year 1929 on the gravy boat, while the underplate has a fleur de lis for 1930. The gravy boat measures about 8 3/4 x 3 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches, LxWxH. The underplate measures about 9 5/8 x 5 5/8 inches. This piece weighs 809 grams or 28.5 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
