Description: John Constable (1776-1837) was a very famous English landscape painter. He was known for painting his home and areas he was familiar with in great detail and his sky paintings, where he focused on building a technique for painting clouds. In order to popularize his work, he partnered with David Lucas, a skilled mezzotint engraver to make copies of his work to sell. Constable once even said that Lucas was able to translate his paintings' shadows and light in a way that only Constable wished he could. This detailed engraving displays light beautifully. It is in fairly good condition, with one small stain about an inch from the border of the picture. The paper has faint discoloration around the edges. It is 16 5/8" x 12 1/4", and 17 7/8" x 14" with the matting.
