Sporting a gorgeous Magenta Pink Stain finish, the all-star spec sheet features a resonant roasted swamp ash body, a striking roasted flame maple neck, a pitch-black ebony fingerboard sans inlays, a reverse headstock, and is headlined by an absolutely incredible waterfall burl maple top. Wow. It also features a custom HSS pickup set as well as a hardtail bridge, which is unusual with the aforementioned pickup configuration. Built in the good ol' USA in Lake Elsinore, CA by some of the finest luthiers in the western hemisphere, this Standard is an absolutely smokin' guitar. The playability and feel of the roasted maple neck is simply divine. The satin feel of the wood lets you fly up and down the neck without any stickiness whatsoever, and it can be argued that Suhr has been a pioneer in making roasted maple popular in recent years. The Even C neck shape is comfortable and thin without feeling like you're holding a toothpick. Sonically, the guitar's stellar pickup configuration is intended to have the capability to get aggressive when you dig in while still having the versatility to clean up nicely like a more vintage S-style instrument. The ML Standard pickups are relatively modern-sounding and have moderately higher output than an average single-coil, and ditto for the Thornbucker Plus over a more vintage-level PAF-type humbucker. That being said, these are still incredibly touch-sensitive and responsive to picking dynamics like a vintage guitar should be. Suhr really nailed it with these. As much as the guitar can nail the amount of drive and low-end tightness necessary for soaring leads and heavier riffage, they easily get some beautiful bluesy, lightly overdriven tones and shimmering clean sounds as well. A fine example of a boutique, hot-rodded S-style build, this instrument will leave you awestruck with its sound and dazzle with its looks.
