Description: Peter Davison; Houghton Mifflin, 1992. Hardcover. 424 + xi + 6 pages of maps. Includes extensive notes, bibliography, index, and 16 pages of black and white illustrations. The Author chronicles five native american groups, Aztecs, Mayas, Incas, Cherokee, and Iroquois, through three periods: Invasion, Resistance, and Rebirth. He attempts to tell this history as much as possible from the Indian point of view. He points out, that unlike Asia and Africa, in America the colonial powers never left. Indeed the native populations were decimated while the invader has become the dominate cultural and political force. History that had been systematically suppressed is brought to life right up to the recent American Indian Movement. The epilogue, 'Rediscovery' discusses how governments are reexamining the national myths regarding aboriginal history and culture. Very good source material is brought together. Condition: Very good in good dust jacket. Dust jacket has stains on inside only, black and red, due to water (see scan), affects the boards also but only slightly. Boards, binding, and pages in very good, clean, unmarked condition. Dust jacket price not clipped, no tears, chips, or creases. Very good+ except for stains.
