Description: This openwork sterling silver pendant from Israel features a big oval gemstone that I'm assuming is either Eilat stone or some similar mixed stone.* If the stone IS Eilat, it probably weighs around 4 grams. (The stone is approx. 24mm x 18mm x 6mm.) The pendant is 36.5mm wide and 55mm long. That's 1.4" x 2.2" for you non-metric types. The total weight of the pendant is 17.5 grams. The back of the pendant is stamped "925" and "ISRAEL." The accompanying necklace is an 18" strand of alternating 4mm malachite rondelles and 4mm malachite rounds. It has been professionally strung (not by me) on flexible beading nylon and has a sterling silver lobster clasp. The pendant can be removed from the necklace for mixing and matching. *Eilat stone is a mix of malachite, chrysocalla, turquoise, copper and trace amounts of whatever else worked its way into the party. The composition of each piece of Eilat stone is different -- this one has more malachite (so it's more green and black), that one has more turquoise (so it's more blue or teal). You get the picture... This stone used to be a by-product of copper-mining in the Eilat region at the very southern tip of Israel. These mines closed down in the 1970s and now this area is filled with resort hotels. However, in response to demand for this very Israeli stone, mining of the stone (not the copper) resumed on an occasional and semi-casual basis afterward. But inevitably, to fill the demand, similar mixed stones have been imported and marketed as genuine Eilat stone. It's difficult to ascertain if your "genuine Eilat stone from Israel" isn't actually genuine azurite stone from Namibia. Generally, if a piece is from Israel and older (1970s' or earlier), it's likely -- but not guaranteed -- to be the "real thing." Having said all that, the value of Eilat stone is hard to reckon; is it really worth more than azurite from Namibia? Probably not. So I'm not getting too exercised over whether this is "real" Eilat or not. If it isn't, it's obviously a mixture very similar to Eilat and it's from Israel. And you can draw your own conclusions.
