Description: This is a lovely specialty serving spoon in the Spartan pattern by Baker-Manchester Silver Co. This pattern features a knight's helmet with feathery plume. It's extra fancy. My reference books say the pattern was introduced 1898, but the back of this spoon indicates a patent date in 1900. Adding to the mystery -- I assumed it was a sugar spoon, but the bowl doesn't look like items so named on popular pattern matching sites. So, it could be one of the numerous specialty spoons (picadilly, relish, etc.) that I can't match without seeing a whole pattern legend. To boot, many manufacturers changed body types over the years while keeping the pattern static (i.e., handle never changes, but sugar bowl could have multiple variations). Ok, you know what I know here now. This specialty server measures 5.5". Silver weight is 14 grams. Condition: Excellent giftable condition. No monogram. There are no reportable condition issues such as pings, dings, pitting, scratches, gouges, carbon spots, or bends. Surface patina consistent with age.
