No. 4 1/2 Extra Large Smooth Plane Type 18 c. 1946 - 1947 Description: This sale is for the Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 4 1/2 Smooth Plane pictured. This is a type 18 and dates from just after WWII. It is clean and nice. The original japanning is 98% or better. The full length cutter is nice w/ original grind that has been honed. Note how the sole edges have a slight factory chamfer. No structural issues. This plane saw little if any use and is a beautiful example that is ready to go to work. The one minor apology is the top of the tote got chewed on by a hungry critter one day. I darkened the area with a magic marker. It is hardly noticeable. Overall a very nice plane from the end of the era when Stanley was still putting out a pretty nice tool.
