Description: Philip Dormer Stanhope, the Fourth Earl of Chesterfield, was a diplomat and British statesman. His son’s widow published these letters written over the course of 30 years to his son in order to advise and educate him as a proper handbook for worldly success. In very good condition, this was printed in Philadelphia. Inside front on the torn spare are the names of various previous owners including Pliny Smith Jr of Little Falls, Ohio, Frank Smith and F.O. Smith from his grandmother.
