Description: First English edition. Publisher's decorated cloth. A very good copy, cover with some wear to spine ends. 8 colored plates by Nandalall Bose. Translated from the Bengali by the author. This copy is particularly interesting because it has an embossed stamp to the title page reading "presentation copy" and because of the ex-libris bookplate showing it to have been part of the library of the famous Stanbrook Abbey, home of the Stanbrook Abbey Press, which produced some incredible examples of fine book printing through the 20th century. Bookplate reads: "Ex Libris Abbatiae/ Sanctae Mariae de Stanbrook." 1913 was the year Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first non-European to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature and the second non-European to receive a Nobel Prize after Theodore Roosevelt.
