Description: Childs Green Transferware Dinner Set Plate ANIMALS Copeland ( late Spode) Stoke England c. 1880 This is a scarce childs or dollhouse transfer printed earthenware plate made as part childs dollhouse dinner service or tea set. The round dish is transfer printed in blue-green teal, measuring 4 inches across. The decoration consists of 6 individual transfer printed animals placed randomly. This delectable pattern is featured in Playtime Porcelain and Pottery by Lorraine Punchard, English Toy China by Doris Lechler, and Gifts for Good Children Part II by Maureen Batkin. The whimsical transfers originated from early natural history engraving used later to produce early children's primer and ABC books. It is of the highest quality transferware, suitable for adult tastes and standards. The plate is in great condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. No utensil wear, some typical minor firing imperfections consistent with age and prior use. The piece is earthy and uniquely charming naive. It is amazing that this piece belonged to a child over 100 years ago! Offered as is.
