Description: St Margaret Mary Holy Medal on Chain This nickel silver oval medal of St Margaret Mary Alacoque is 7/8" tall and made in Italy; it has a bit of oxidation to show the details and give it that great vintage look although it is brand new. Comes on a continuous 24" stainless steel chain. Comes gift-boxed and with a St Margaret Mary prayer card, Sacred Heart prayer card, gift bag and tissue paper. St Margaret Mary was an only child born in 1647 in France. She had rheumatic fever as a child, and was confined to her bed for four years until she made a vow to the Blessed Mother to devote her life as a nun after which she was returned to perfect health. She and her mother lived in poverty after her father died, and as she grew into a young woman her mother encouraged Margaret to go out socially in hopes of finding a wealthy husband. When returning home from a dance at age 17, she had a vision of Jesus scourged and bleeding. Jesus wanted to know how long she would make Him wait for her to consecrate her life to God. Margaret Mary did become a nun and had visions or apparitions of Our Lord - she didn't think anything of them, as she thought everyone did! Jesus began to explain to her about His Love and the devotion he wanted her to spread about His Sacred Heart, which included the "holy hour" devotion of the Blessed Sacrament which was to be done on Thursdays in honor of the Agony in the Garden. Although she was first treated with skepticism eventually her visions and the beautiful devotions were approved. She died at age 42 and was canonized in 1920. A worthy role model for young girls and women. She is the patron saint of loss of parents, people suffering from polio, and devotees of the Sacred Heart.
