Description: SPIN CERAMICS SPIN Ceramics is a line from an emerging Chinese design. Based in Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), these young designers are reviving the ancient qualities of Jiandezhen porcelain: white as jade, thin as paper, clear as glass, sweet-sounding as a chime. Spin pieces are handmade in China’s Jingdezhen district, which from about 1500 to 1700 A.D. was the sole location for Chinese porcelain. This set was designed by Artist Rongsheng Li and first released in September 2006 The cobblestone collection is a series of porcelain bowls, cups, vases, etc. design to mimic the organic shapes of river stones, rounded over time and then used in the cobblestone streets. 3 organic bowls are made of light, fine porcelain and are slightly different from each other. The glaze is called Green White and is white with a faint tint of green. Spin mark on underside. - undersides are not glazed The design is both organic and modernist at the same time. Approx. measurements - larger bowl - 5.5" x 4.5" x 3" smaller bowls - 3.75" x 3.5" x 2" Made in Jingdezhen , China The word "China" can sometimes conjure up images of mysteriously beautiful porcelain vases and delicate crockery. For centuries, this country has indeed been known as the land of porcelain-and hence the name China. Spin, which first opened in Shanghai in 2004 and later in Beijing and Melbourne, has played a role in changing the Chinese ceramics art market, previously saturated with tired-looking reproductions and half-baked modern pieces catering to tourists. Spin has gone back to the basics: pure forms, subtle colors and clear purposes. Young designers and experienced artists from the porcelain capital Jingdezhen collaborate to create refreshing and calming pieces for this ceramics store.Spin Ceramics is a collective of designers and artisans led by artistic director, Gary Wang that creates artistic and delicately cutting-edge porcelain. The pieces are made in Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital, using techniques dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Jingdezhen porcelain is described as being “white as jade, thin as paper, and as sweet sounding as a chime.” Gary Wang, chief designer of Spin, combines his innovative, modern style with traditional Chinese handicraft and applies it to ceramic products such as cups, plates, jugs, pillar candles, as well as around 150 limited edition tableware items.
