Description: Soviet Russian USSR medal Order of the Red Star with serial number in the 900k range range, awarded in 1944 to Lieutenant-Colonel Ivan Dzyuba, former Commander of the 1110th Rifle Regiment, of the 266th Rifle Division, and at the time he received this award – an officer at the Frunze Military Academy, one of the USSR’s most prestigious military academies! Dzyuba was also among the earliest recipients of the Order of the Badge of Honor (est. 1935); he received that award in 1936. During WWII, Dzyuba first served on the Leningrad Front and therefore earned the Medal for the Defense of Leningrad. Then in September 1942 took command of the 1110th Rifle Regiment, 266th Rifle Division, which was part of the 3rd Guards Army on the Southwestern Front. As such, Dzyuba was on the extreme north of the Stalingrad area of operations and took part in Operation Little Saturn. However, he fell ill during that campaign and was sent to the hospital for recuperation. Dzyuba ended up at the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow, presumably as an instructor on the faculty. It was here that he received this Order of the Red Star for long service in 1944. A citation for the Red Star is not presently available from the web portals of the Russian archives, but it should one day become available and prove interesting. Dzyuba’s 1110th Rifle Regiment fought all the way to Berlin, where it took part in storming the city center in the last days of the Third Reich. Post-war, Dzyuba served as a military commissar in his native Ukraine. He additionally received the Order of the Red Banner and Order of Lenin for his service. Condition is near excellent, as seen in the images! The award has a very handsome patina. The serial number of the award is authentic and matches the serial number shown in the archival documents, obviously! If you require confirmation in advance, please send me a message, and I will gladly provide images. Over time, I have found that redacting award serial numbers in certain listings (particularly of researched awards) has acted a simple and effective filter to sort good customers from troublesome eBay hooligans. Reasonable, rational collectors who are genuinely interested in the history represented by an award will make the effort to reach out and will quickly find that everything is in order. Winner will be provided with archival research (2 pages - Award Record Card) in electronic format, unredacted, in color, plus archival portraits of Dzyuba, also in electronic format. One of the portraits shows him wearing this Red Star! Professional English translation of the Record Card is available if requested before receipt of item. No returns. All questions in advance. I will answer all coherent, respectful inquiries to the best of my ability. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING AVAILABLE only through eBay’s Global Shipping Program (GSP).
