Description: Souvenir Banknote 100 Karbovanets (to mark the centenary of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 – 1921) In booklet This banknote marks the centenary of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 – 1921 and the first Ukrainian paper money. It reproduces the design of the first Ukrainian banknote – the 100 karbovanets state banknote created by Heorhiy Narbut. The depiction of the trident on the banknote almost two months before the Central Council’s Coat of Arms Law was passed contributed greatly to the adoption of the symbol of Volodymyr the Great’s princely state on the coat of arms of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. The banknote also reflected the Ukrainian principles of state-building – the face value on the first Ukrainian banknote was written in four languages: Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and Yiddish. In this way, the young country declared its respect for the representatives of all nations and peoples that inhabited ethnic Ukrainian lands, proclaiming that they had freedoms and rights equal to those of the dominant ethnic group.
