Southern Circa 1800 Federal Inlaid Walnut Blockfront Sideboard

Description: Description:This is an extremely rare Circa 1800 monumental block front Sheraton Walnut veneered and extensively inlaid example with Pine secondary wood. This example is pictured in the 1931 work: 'Southern Antiques' by Paul H. Burroughs. The veneer pattern shown on the front doors in Plate IX of Burroughs book match those of ours identically leading us to conclude that our example is indeed the one pictured and described as Sheraton Shaped Sideboard - Walnut (Georgia ca. 1795-1800. The sideboard has two curved doors with a curved central drawer, all with inlay work, with the left and right side banks of drawers beginning at the top with a felt-lined silver drawer and ending at the bottom in large Cellarettes. 8 tapered legs support the cabinet. Additional inlay work is found on the backsplash with two carved medallions on the top. The unique design of the sideboard resembles the Brothers Adam design and is known to have been used by Sheraton. Finely grained native walnut is used as veneer, and just four such pieces of this type were known as of the publishing of Burrough's compendium. The workmanship is beyond excellent. (Property of C.
