Description: A tremendously rare 78RPM "Palestinian Folk Songs" 3x12" album in the first place (pretty much non-existent outside a few libraries and Jewish heritage archives), flat-out impossible to find in this condition. Overall strong VG+, complete with three discs in the original sleeve. (Please note, all grading done visually as I don’t have a 78RPM table rn; higher price includes an extra safe packaging to preserve fragile shellac discs). The record set was a very limited edition by the United Synagogues of America as part of an effort to revive Jewish American pride and identity in the mid-1950s, in support of the then newly established state of Israel. The sleeve contains bilingual lyrics, in homage of ancient Hebrew temple music passed down and cherished by the Jews of Palestine and Jewish Americans alike. Released in 1947, very historically significant! Directed by Martin Berkowitz, with foreword by Leonard Bernstein. Song And Soil: Palestinian Folk Songs שירי המולדת (translates as "Songs of the Homeland") PALESTINIAN FOLK SONGS Sung by the UNITED SYNAGOGUE CHORUS Directed by MARTIN BERKOWITZ Foreword by LEONARD BERNSTEIN Published by THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF AMERICA, 3080 Broadway, New York Label: The United Synagogue Of America Catalog numbers (per side): 101-1A, 106-1B, 102-2A, 105-2B, 103-3A, 104-3B Release date: 1947 CONDITION Overall: Strong VG/E (C6) All six sides have a strong shine, clearly handled and stored well (spindle marks on labels and some surface defects indicates it was played occasionally). A few sides have slight scuffs and marks (see attached images), still at least a solid VG-/E-, unlikely to affect playback significantly. Some labels are slightly blemished. No library/archive stickers or any significant defects on the cover, which is fully functional, with non-worn spine text. Minor defects: -Split seams on the cardboard pockets that hold the sleeves (on the side, not at the bottom, so it’s still safe to handle) -Very minor molding/deterioration in the sleeve’s corner Three tiny hand-written marks: "Rabbi J.J. Fe####" (indistinct, corner of the front cover) "75 RPM" (first inlay, note a mistaken speed indication) "3/29/48 4.25" (corner of the 2nd inlay, likely price and purchase date)
