Description: Snap-on Tools Drawer Removal Tool - Aftermarket Copy Why not take the money you have saved by purchasing a reproduction toolbox shim and buy a nice vintage Snap-on decal, some new drawer liner, a better grade of paint or a new key lock for your toolbox instead? If only interested in doing a quick restore on a relatively clean Snap-on box where the drawers aren't frozen or damaged and don't anticipate getting into the hobby, this set offers an economical alternative to the name-brand item. But if considering other toolbox restoration projects, please view my other listing for the Universal shims for additional time & money-saving restoration shortcuts. The thing to remember about Snap-on’s drawer removal shims is to the contrary, the legendary Snap-on quality isn’t present, and a person is only given the bare minimum necessary to get the drawers out. Snap-on isn’t in the business of selling drawer removal shims, they are in the business of trying to sell you a new toolbox. Did you ever wonder why a person is unable to easily order a pair of shims off their website? If you ever happen to run into trouble pulling a damaged drawer, it is when the stock Snap-on shim fails miserably. The problem with putting a few degrees of bend into the shims is because it is such a gradual bend, they often flatten back out during shipping but in no way affects function. The proper point of bend for the shims in the event they become completely flattened is 1 3/8 inch and ½ inch, with the shorter end being inserted away from the drawer sidewall. Even as a straight piece the shims work fine, but placing a slight bend at one end seems to work a little better and at the very least put a tape tab on one end so they aren't as hard to lose.Your biggest threat isn’t an improperly bent drawer removal shim, it’s trying not to lose them, they have a way of disappearing before you even have a chance to pull all your drawers. The original Snap-on drawer removal shim is just too tiny, and it’s what caused me to search for a better way when it comes to toolbox drawer removal, I was finding myself having to pull all 20 drawers with only one shim because the other shim went flying after the first drawer was pulled. If a shim isn’t going in, it is likely because of internal damage or debris, another trick is to put a very slight bend near the tip, not more than 1/16 inch, and also try flipping the tip both ways.If still nothing, file the tip a little thinner. You aren’t sharpening like a knife point; all you are trying to do is make the material a little thinner near the tip to facilitate squeezing through a tight spot. Try lubricating oil or solvent if a stubborn drawer is refusing to allow insertion of your shim. Use a flashlight to see if any obstructions are visible. It's not about ruggedness in a shim, it's about being very thin, yet strong & flexible and able to slip past Even if you didn't buy from me, if you are faced with some type of unique problem or wanting to integrate a toolbox into the design of another piece of furniture or equipment, don't be afraid to send me a few photos with your questions and I'll see what I can do to help. This listing is for a pair of shims, they aren't sold individually because it wouldn't make much sense to have only one of them. If you don’t think the item is going to work for your application, please return them unused for a full refund. If planning a toolbox restoration during your holiday off time, please order in advance in case there are delivery problems so you aren’t sitting idle. It is unnecessary to file complaints, just let me know and I'll be more than happy to send you out another set, it's not a big deal, it's just part of doing business. I may ask you to wait a few more days if it's below 14 days or waiting until Monday's delivery after a weekend or holiday, but other than that, I'm fine with honoring your requests. Please disregard Ebay's estimated tracker because it's wrong, there is no tracking number because they are shipped with a non-barcoded forever stamp. Package tracking would be an additional $3.90 and most people aren't interested in having it especially since the package ships as a regular letter and fits through a regular mail slot, so it is not vulnerable to package theft. The ends of the shims are taped to an index card so there is no risk of anything poking a hole in the envelope. It also helps greatly that a standard-sized envelope is used because it seems to make a difference in delivery over a slightly irregular or homemade envelope. Hopefully, you will receive your shims within a week, but with the post office, you never know, so please rest assured that I have done everything possible from my end to eliminate any potential problems. Please remember that Snap-on's drawer removal tool does not work on many older brands like pre-80s Craftsman, Huot, early Cornwell, early Mac, early Proto, early Waterloo, early S-K, Duplex and other long-defunct toolbox brands, they aren't long enough. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How to restore an old toolbox1.
